Our Planned Journey

An earlier post included our walking itinerary - August 15 - September 25.

Flying out of Tampa on August 8 and arriving in Barcelona on August 9.

August 9 - August 12:

Staying 3 nights in Barcelona at the El Jardi.  Upon arrival in Barcelona, we'll drop our bags at the El Jardi and head over to Park Guell.

On the 10th or 11th, we plan to take a day trip, via train, to Monserrat.  The rest of our time in Barcelona will be sightseeing and tapas.

August 12:

Train from Barcelona to Lyon.

August 13 - August 16:

Train from Lyon to Le Puy.  Staying 3 nights in Le Puy.  We'll use the time to get our French Pilgrims Credential at the Cathedral, locate the route out of town,  pick up any supplies we need (snacks, fruit) and begin walking on August 16.

August 16 - September 24: Walking from Le Puy to St Jean Pied de Port, the GR65 - 736 kms (457 miles).

After the long walk our whirlwind tour of Spain begins!  Pamplona, Madrid, Granada, Sevilla, Barcelona plus a few day trips tossed into the mix to keep things interesting.

September 25:  We booked an extra night at the Hotel Itzalpea in St Jean Pied de Port.  While in St Jean, we may walk the first part of the Camino de Santiago - from St. Jean Pied de Port to Orisson and have lunch before walking back down to St Jean - that's if the sun is shining.

September 26:  Taking the bus from St Jean to Pamplona, spending just one night in Pamplona.

September 27 - October 1:  Traveling by train from Pamplona to Madrid.  We have 5 nights in Madrid, hotel is booked.  Lots to do and see in Madrid, not to be missed is the Prado.  Day trips to El Escorial and Segovia.

October 2 - October 3: Need to buy bus/train tickets from Madrid to Granada.  Staying 2 nights in Granada.

October 4 - October 6:  Need to buy bus/train tickets from Granada to Sevilla.  Staying 3 nights in Sevilla.

October 7 - October 8:  Flying from Sevilla to Barcelona.  Staying 2 nights in Barcelona.  We purchased our tickets to Sagrada Familia.  Any remaining time in Barcelona - walking to the waterfront and tapas.

October 9:  Flight to Tampa.

We need to purchase our train/bus tickets from: Madrid to Granada, Granada to Sevilla, Barcelona to Monserrat, Madrid to El Escorial, Madrid to Segovia.  We may buy our train/bus tickets for Madrid to Granada and Granada to Sevilla before we leave - haven't decided yet.
